Lost and Found

Tuesdays in November

The note got lost... and now I've found it again in the one place I hadn't looked for it: my film file! Sometimes being organized creates chaos...

First Tuesday in November, 7.th, that is, i.e. tomorrow we will finally have (how many attempts have we made so far?) "Germany, Year Zero", 1949 that classic Italian Neorealism film by Roberto Rossellini. As extension of the Italian season could also be seen La Commare secca, 1962, by Bernardo Bertolucci.

Tuesday, 14. November is going to be a special repeat/surprise film - for more details ask in the bookshop.

Currently being deeply emersed in concentrated thinking things over - considering a season of more recent British films, say the last 10 years, we would welcome suggestions from all interested: remember, this is the people's filmclub and those who watch the movies, decide about the show!

We are also interested in Australian film - what's on, what's good, what would you like to see?

Please join the heated debate... and see you Tuesdays at 20.00h.

Take care everybody,

amanda

On the Edge of Blade Runner (Video)

This is the rare UK Channel 4 documentary about Blade Runner, giving insights into it's history with interviews of Ridley Scott, the writers and nearly all the cast.

There is also a tour of some locations, most notably the Bradbury Building and the Warner Brothers backlot that was the LA 2019 streets, which look very different from Ridley Scott's dark version.

Tuesday: Terry Gilliam - The forgotten films

Maybe Sean can tell us a bit about working with Mr. Gilliam on The Past People of Potsdamer Platz before we have a look at this fine mess:

Lost in La Mancha: Fulton and Pepe's 2000 documentary captures Terry Gilliam's attempt to get The Man Who Killed Don Quixote off the ground. Back injuries, freakish storms, and more zoom in to sabotage the project (which has never been resurrected). Trailer below...

And then there is Tideland: "After her mother dies from a heroin overdose, Jeliza-Rose is taken from the big city to a rural farmhouse by her father. As she tries to settle into a new life in a house her father had purchased for his now-deceased mother, Jeliza-Rose's attempts to deal with what's happened result in increasingly odd behavior, as she begins to communicate mainly with her bodiless Barbie doll heads and Dell, a neighborhood woman who always wears a beekeeper's veil." October - Italian Movies on Tuesday

For film-buffs, those aspiring and of course, everybody interested - October Tuesdays will have a theme:

Each filmnight is going to be introduced by a couple of chapters of Martin Scorcese's "My voyage to Italy" ( Mio viaggio in Italia), his very personal trip into post-war Italian cinema. According to popular demand by sweet souls, i.e. those who care, the season opens on 3. Oct. with: "Juliet and the spirits", D.: Fellini, continues with Bertolucci's "1900" on 10. 10. (prepare for a long one!) 17.10. is going to be "Surprise night", as we will, the week before, in a, no doubt lively, yet result orientated discussion, determine which film to show next week. So far the Italian season closes with Visconti's "The Leopard", one of the proprietor's all time favourites. Don't loose heart, though: wer'e open for suggestions - how about extending the season - or plan ahead for a new one - with movies directed by Antonioni, Begnini, Coppola, Leone, Pasolini, Werthmüller...anyone else?

"Destiny (Der Müde Tod)" by Fritz Lang

"As a young couple stops and rests in a small village inn, the man is abducted by Death and is sequestered behind a huge doorless, windowless wall. The woman finds a mystic entrance and is met by Death, who tells her three separate stories set in exotic locales, all involving circumstances similar to hers." A beautiful expressionist film directed by Fritz Lang, 1921. This film is in Public Domain.
