Lady Gaby aka Gaby Bila-Günther was born in Romania, grew up in Australia and is now a resident of Berlin. She is curator, artist and performer. Lady Gaby has been invited to many international festivals where she graced the stage with lyrics about many contemporary issues, women’s roles and positions, longings for place and identity, urban issues and other rather pleasurable subjects such as sexuality, lust and fantasies. Her spokenword performances are weird, interactive, political and confronting. Electro beats accompany her powerful lyrics.

EVENTS: Jowe Head - Live in Berlin
Photobucket
("Pacifiers" by Jowe Head)

Location: Trödler, Dresdenerstr. 123, Berlin (U8-Kottbusser Tor, the little street where the Babylon Cinema and Möbel Olfe is!)

On Friday, February 22, 9:00 PM Jowe Head will be supported by the Incredible Shitty Listener plus the sensational Sister Chain & Brother John.

On Saturday, February 23, 9:00 PM Mr. Head will be supported by Shitty Listener and Kristof Schreuf (Ex-Kollossale Jugend, legendary pioneers of what is now referred to as “Kettcar, Tomte, Tocotronic & Co.” Viele Hamburger Schulen sind nach ihm benannt!)

INFO:
Mister Jowe Head is an artist and a musician from the Midlands of England, now living in east London. Moving from his home town of Solihull, he started his Fine Art training in Manchester in 1976. At the same time he was beginning his musical career with various school-friends, a project that came to be known as Swell Maps. This group emerged in the late 1970s, and are now seen as legendary pioneers of what is now referred to as the “Alternative rock” scene; they set up their own record label and mixed punk rock with experimental psychedelic sounds.

Swell Maps released four singles and two albums in a brief but dramatic career that saw them topping the UK independent charts. When they broke up, Jowe joined Television Personalities who he met as label-mates at Rough Trade Records. Ten years with the TVPs saw Jowe touring with them around Europe regularly, and travelling to Japan and the USA.

At the same time, Jowe was constantly evolving his own visual aesthetic and personal imagery. As well as many solo and group exhibitions in the UK, he has helped to run a community art centre in east London and he also teaches in his neighbourhood. As well as painting murals and designing posters, LP and CD covers, Jowe makes collages, sculpture and clocks using recycled junk and he is also an accomplished print-maker.

Jowe continues to make music and has a new band called Angel Racing Food. He is also a solo performer and recording artist. He continues to develop his eccentric artistic vision and exhibits his art-work internationally.

EVENTS: Wallywoods Meeting / DDR Big Chair
Photobucket

The Berlin Big Chairs project marches on into 2008 by taking over Gallery Wallywoods in Weissensee for an indefinite period and stuffing it with Big Chair art.

At Wallywoods - Saturday, 9 February, 8pm: "Artist, DDR fan and Wallywoods curator Paul Woods plans to build a Big Chair to these proportions on the gallery terrace, then decorate it with the DDR and other 'Kulturhaus' rubbish he has found, daily since Christmas, in the 'Kulturhaus' rubbish-yard. Materials include original posters, paintings, drawings, signs, prints, photos, books, prospects, diaries, certificates, film, records, tapes, ceramics, costumes, scenery, shoes, umbrellas, children's drawings, architectural plans, empty picture frames (glass and contents smashed and gone) and other rescued objects and documentation spanning 40 years in the history of Weissensees most important 'culture' center - now privatised - deliberately it seems, but not quite secretly, disposed of by the previous tenant 'Kulturamt Pankow' (local Ministry of Culture) without a word of warning or invitation to local or national museums, cultural and historical societies, libraries, researchers, arts projects or even private collectors.
Why?
Because inside we need the space, and outside few appear to give a damn. If you come to the meeting (possibly accompanied by live music and/or performance), expect to be roped in.
Because we need help. And not just in this respect.
(Free drinks for spontaneous musicians, builders and journalists!)"

EVENTS: Shah Rukh Khan at Berlinale Talent Campus
Photobucket

The highly acclaimed Indian Bollywood actor, producer
Shahrukh Khan will be one of the special guests at the HAU 1 on sunday at 11 am to talk about "Love International". Other guests on the panel are Maria Schrader and Kate Henshaw-Nuttall.

From the programme: "Moderated by Dorothee Wenner. In cooperation with Federal Foreign Office and Berlinale Special.
There are few things more pleasurable than seeing a
wonderful love story on the big screen. Although love may be regarded as an eternal affair and a natural humancondition, looking at films from the different parts of the world, one can see clear distinctions arising from very different cultural contexts that shape relationships from the “first sight” till “death tears them apart”. Morale, ethics, family constellations, gender relations, economics, traditions and religion – all these issues result in what the Western world likes to describe as the most private sphere of an individual.
Three super stars from the genre of “love depiction” –
Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan, Kate Henshaw-Nuttall of the Nollywood fame and German leading lady and Silver Bear winner Maria Schrader – look at today’s cinema and its purpos as a role model for “real” love stories, as well as a fulfilment of audiences’ desire for escapism and as a reflection of the world
we live in – be it in India, Nigeria, Germany or elsewhere."

You can download either the complete Talent Campus Magazine with all information on participants, experts and content of all programme events or just the compact pdf with all programme information.

Candy (1968) Cristian Marquand
Conchita Candy Christian is an innocent young girl when she first hears NcPhito, an alcoholic Welsh poet, talk of love and self-sacrifice. Candy narrowly escapes McPhisto's attempt to rape her, only to succumb to her father's Mexican gardener, Emmanuel. When her father catches her with the gardener, he banishes her to a trip with his twin brother, Uncle Jack, and Jack's wife Aunt Livia, who are headed for New York City. As Candy makes her way to the airport, Emmanuel's three sisters attack her because she has corrupted their brother. Because of Candy, Emmanuel has now forsaken the priesthood. During the scuffle, Candy's father takes a blow to the head, resulting in a serious head injury. Candy nearly gives in to a General Smight on the plane in exchange for a blood transfusion for her father. In New York, an ego-maniacal brain surgeon Dr. Krankeit operates on her father, while Uncle Jack pursues his own operation on Candy. When Candy bashes him with a bedpan, Uncle Jack is put in her father's hospital bed, while her father wanders away without notice. Candy is now free to visit Greenwich Village where she takes part in a film by an underground movie director Jonathan J. John. It's a pornographic film, shot in a public restroom. Next, Candy becomes the pet of a benevolent hunchback in Central Park, but she escapes from his arch criminal into the truck trailer of Guru Grindl. During the drive to California, Grindl initiates her into the mysteries of the Seventh Stage and other secrets of life. In California, Candy seeks the Great Buddah, who will reveal to her the ultimate stage. In her search, she encounter a filthy hermit who leads her to a temple. There Candy and the hermit have sex. When a deluge destroys the temple and washes the hermit clean. Candy recognizes that the hermit is really her wandering father. Again Candy runs away to more trouble. The final time, however, she finds herself in a hippie orgy, reunited with her past sexual partners.
